Can my baby have mango?

A quick, age-by-age answer with how to serve it safely. Checked against AAP, USDA WIC.

Under 6 monthsNot yet

Most babies start solids around 6 months.

Ripe mango is one of the easiest first fruits once your baby is ready for solids.

How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.

6 months and upSafe

A ripe, peeled mango is a near-perfect baby food.

Soft, sweet, and easy to gum. The cautions: the skin, which is tough to chew and can irritate sensitive skin, the big slippery pit, and very firm underripe fruit.

How to serve: Peel first, always. Serve ripe: wide strips for young babies to grip, small pieces once the pincer grasp arrives. Never hand over the bare pit.
