Can my baby have broccoli?
A quick, age-by-age answer with how to serve it safely. Checked against AAP, USDA WIC.
Most babies start solids around 6 months.
Steamed-soft broccoli is a classic early food. The floret is a natural handle for tiny fists.
How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.
Cooked soft, it is a starter favorite.
Steamed until soft, broccoli is easy to gum and the stem works as a built-in handle. Raw broccoli stays too hard for young children to chew safely.
How to serve: Steam or roast until a fork slides in easily. Whole small florets for grabbing, chopped once the pincer grasp arrives. Skip raw florets until about age 4.
Cooked or raw, broccoli is fine now.
From about age 4, raw broccoli with a dip is fair game. Cooked stays easier to eat and just as nutritious.
