Most babies start solids around 6 months.

Rice and rice cereal can start with solids. The bigger question with rice is variety, because rice takes up arsenic from soil and water more than other grains.

How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.

Fine to serve. Just do not make it the only grain.

Rice absorbs more arsenic from soil and water than other grains, so the FDA advises variety rather than avoidance. Rotating grains keeps any one exposure low. Well-cooked rice clumps softly and is easy for babies to eat.

How to serve: Cook soft. Rinse rice and cook it in extra water to reduce arsenic. Rotate with oats, barley, wheat, and quinoa across the week instead of serving rice daily.
