Can my baby have cucumber?
A quick, age-by-age answer with how to serve it safely. Checked against CDC, AAP.
Most babies start solids around 6 months.
Once solids begin, cucumber works if the shape is right. Firm raw rounds are the hazard, not the vegetable.
How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.
No coins. Strips and spears only.
Firm raw rounds are exactly the shape that blocks a small airway. Cut differently, cucumber is refreshing and safe.
How to serve: Serve peeled thin strips, or a wide spear a young baby can gnaw with supervision. No coins or thick rounds until age 4.
Fine from age 4, any reasonable cut.
By age 4 most children can manage cucumber rounds. Strips remain easier for smaller mouths.
