Can my baby have whole grapes?
A quick, age-by-age answer with how to serve it safely. Checked against CDC, USDA WIC.
Most babies start solids around 6 months.
Grapes can join the menu once solids begin, cut safely every time. Before readiness, nothing needs to be on the tray.
How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.
Great food, but cut them every time.
Grapes are healthy, but their round, smooth shape is a top choking hazard until age 4. The fruit is fine, the shape is the risk.
How to serve: Quarter lengthwise into long thin slivers until age 4. For young babies you can also smash them.

Still cut unless this child chews well.
At 4 and up, many children can manage grapes, but whole grapes are never automatically “now safe.” Keep quartering lengthwise unless you know this child chews well, and always supervise.
How to serve: Default remains quarter lengthwise. Offer whole only if this child chews well, and stay nearby.
