Can my baby have cherry tomatoes?
A quick, age-by-age answer with how to serve it safely. Checked against CDC, AAP.
Most babies start solids around 6 months.
Cherry tomatoes can join the menu once solids begin, cut safely. Before readiness, nothing needs to be on the menu at all.
How to serve: Wait for solids readiness.
Same rule as grapes: quarter them, every time.
Cherry and grape tomatoes are healthy, but their round, smooth shape can block a small airway. Round foods the size of a grape are a top choking hazard until age 4.
How to serve: Quarter lengthwise until age 4. If a recipe calls for halved, quarter them anyway for anyone under 4.

Still cut unless this child chews well.
At 4 and up, many children can manage cherry tomatoes, but whole is never automatically “now safe.” Keep quartering lengthwise unless you know this child chews well, and always supervise.
How to serve: Default remains quarter lengthwise. Offer whole only if this child chews well, and stay nearby.
